SAFE studios was established in 1999, the artists having been evicted in 1998 from the studios in Spitalfields Market as part of the development of the market. The Bethnal Green Business Development Centre Ltd at 7-15 Greatorex street offered a space in the newly refurbished block. This project was supported by the European Regional Development Fund, but it was through kay Jordan the architect for the building development, who was to become one of our Trustees that we were able to take over the studio with Ellie Sice as studio-manager. At the same time we were able to take over the top floor of the factory opposite, at 12-14 Greatorex street for a complete refurbishment, - again supported by the European Regional Development Fund. We were established as a limited company is May 1999 and were grated Cherity-status in august 2000.
